The Dark Knight is well known for his intellect and mastery of more than 70 martial arts, along with hundreds of Gadgets and tools that help him defeat the villains of Gotham City.
But is that enough to fight with the entire Avengers league?
Long story short, No. He’s incapable of defeating the Avengers, not if they surprise him or if it’s his first encounter. Hawkeye, the “less” powerful of the Avengers, even though he’s the true leader of the team and the glue that sticks them together (that’s a different topic for another day), can have a good chance of winning in combat 1 on 1.
Batman is more intelligent than Hawkeye, that’s for sure, but Hawkeye has way more ability with his aim than Batman with the batarangs and all of his throwable weapons. Batman will have the upper hand if they combat fist to fist, but Hawkeye knows how to keep track against stronger opponents. We have Loki as an example; Hawkeye tricked the trickster with his explosive arrow.
But enough of Hawkeye. If the ¨weakest¨ of the Avengers can be close to defeating Batman, what can we expect from Thor? Or Iron Man? Even Cap is a super-human and has crazy abilities in physics, using his shield.
Imagine the Avengers all together fighting with Batman. It would be an easy and quick win for the Avengers, but it would teach the Gotham Defender a great lesson.
The Second Round Hypothesis.
Give Bats time, and he will have the upper hand. That’s the whole thing about his character, he’s just a human; he doesn’t have super-human abilities like Hawkeye or Black Widow, and he doesn’t have powers like Thor or Spider-Man, but he has much of something, and that’s brains. Batman is one of the smartest, if not the smartest, human in all comics, being surpassed slightly by Lex Luthor and Dr. Doom, but we know Batman can defeat both if he has time.
Time: Batman is all about timing; let’s make a hypothetical scenario where Batman is defeated by the Avengers; he’s alive but defeated. Sometimes, he records all the moves of his enemies to study them. He’s a great detective; with a little time, he can discover all the weak points of each member of the league and take them down one by one, from easiest to hardest. Batman could take down the Justice League with time and preparation; let’s remember that Batman has contingency plans for each member of the Justice League.
All the other supers respect him and fear him a little bit. Because he’s unpredictable, being involved in a fight with the whole Avengers team without any preparation is less likely to happen than attacking when they don’t expect it.
So yeah, the final answer is: It depends. It depends on how much time Batman has to start his investigation and whether they are expecting him to attack. A surprise attack from Batman would be efficient with almost any Avenger. Maybe he doesn’t need to fight them face to face; he could manipulate the group to destroy itself from the inside, the same strategy that Loki used against them in the first movie.
